FAQ

Where does the name “Augti” come from?

Augti is a Lithuanian verb meaning “to grow.” Our goal at Augti Music Studio is for every student to grow both musically and mentally.

What instruments do you offer?

We currently offer piano, flute, clarinet, percussion, guitar (acoustic or electric), bass (upright or electric), banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and music theory/composition lessons.

Where do lessons take place?

Lessons can be online or in the comfort of your home! Augti teachers travel to Mechanicsburg, Carlisle, and Camp Hill.

What can I expect at my trial lesson?

At a trial lesson, your teacher will work with your child to evaluate readiness for lessons, learning style, and what curriculum is the best fit. Parents are invited to sit in and ask any questions you have. After your trial lesson, we’ll reach out and get you set up for weekly lessons.

Do I need an instrument before starting lessons?

Yes. All students must have their instrument before starting lessons. Piano students may start on a keyboard as long as it has at least 61 keys and the keys are weighted and touch sensitive.

A few of our favorite electric keyboards are the Roland FP-10, Roland FRP-2-ACR, Yamaha P143B, and Casio CDP-S160.

If you’re using an acoustic piano, make sure it is in good condition – pianos should be tuned at least once per year. Ms. Bekah, our director, is a piano technician and offers a discounted rate of $110 for all current Augti families who are enrolled in lessons (they do not need to be piano lessons).

Please feel free to get in touch before purchasing an instrument for more specific advice.

How long are lessons?

Lessons are 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on the student’s age and goals.

How does billing work?

Lessons are paid for in advance at the beginning of each month. With the exception of studio holidays, it is expected that you will have a lesson every week. Our tuition is a flat monthly fee rather than a per-lesson rate – think of it as your lesson subscription!

In the summer, we send out a survey each month which allows you to select which weeks you would like to have lessons, allowing for more flexibility. Your tuition for that month is pro-rated based on the percentage of weeks you do have lessons in that month (for example, if there are five weeks in June and you are away for two of them, your tuition will be 60% of normal tuition).

Many studio events are free for students who are enrolled in weekly lessons – recitals, workshops, festivals, and more!

How young can my child start lessons?

Piano lessons at Augti are suitable for students as young as 3 years old! We use a curriculum called Wunderkeys with our preschoolers that focuses on exploring the piano through games and characters.

Piano students who begin starting at age 5 or 6 can jump right into our “older kid” curriculum: Faber Piano Adventures. After finishing Piano Adventures, we encourage most students to follow the ABRSM syllabus beginning in Grade 3.

We suggest woodwind, brass, and percussion students begin around age 9-10. Many students start with piano lessons before this age to learn to read music! Students who have been in piano lessons for a few years are usually ready to start another instrument earlier than their peers.

Do I have to sign a year-long contract?

Nope! To stop lessons for any reason, we simply require a month’s notice in writing.
